Ahhhh, what a treat. It is always a pleasant surprise when one of your favorite dream pop duo brings out a collection of unreleased material. Beach House amassed unreleased songs spanning from their 11-year career since their self-titled debut in 2006, and we can finally have a hold of these tracks with their compilation B-Side and Rarities. It includes two previously unreleased songs “Chariot” and “Baseball Diamond,” a few remixes and rare cuts.
The tracks did not make it into their past albums, not because the duo did not like them enough, but they believed they did not fit in the previous releases to make them cohesive. One of my personall favorite tracks, “Equal Mind (3),” beautifully opens with a jangling noise that builds up and gently eases into a soothing melody. “Rain in Numbers (11)” is a short and sweet track that reminds you of Radiohead. You will also enjoy their cover of Queen’s “Play the Game (8),” which they deem ‘fun and ridiculous’ to adapt into their realm, given the legendary band’s high energy. Give this album a listen on your next road trip, or when you are just chilling in your most comfortable hibernation spot this winter.
