Anilore is a New York-based shoegaze trio composed of Andy Cheng, Andrew Malenda, and Michael Worsa who met at SUNY New Paltz in 1992. The band was created after finding out that they share similar musical influences like New Order, the Pixies, the Jesus and Mary Chain, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Cocteau Twins, and Joy Division among others.
They recorded their debut album in 1996 entitled Still Awake, and released only 500 copies through Dysmal/Abysmal in 1997. A re-mastered version of the album was released in 2006. They recorded and performed on and off from 1998 to 2005, and released Dead Love’s Grave (2014), again, with a limited quantity of 500 CD copies.
Lull EP is their third release since coming together, and there are only 200 10” blue marble vinyl copies available right now. It features six tracks recorded on 4 track cassette between 2002-2005. The title track (6) was Cheng’s idea way back in their early years when he often played the song’s guitar part on an acoustic guitar after long nights of drinking. “Doorbells” (4) was a piano instrumental recorded in 2003. Lull EP has a minimal, sparse, and haunting sound that is perfectly described by Malenda as “lonely, atmospheric, winter music.”
