Aside from Cubao Expo, one of my most favorite places in my homeland is B-side at The Collective in Makati City. We often go there to 1) watch local bands perform live, go on gastronimical adventures in 2) its stretch of local restaurants and bars, 3) check out the thrift shops to dig through precious vinyl at a cheap price, and enjoy a 4) satisfying journey through a number of local art galleries – all in one compound!
We’ve been there a lot of times and the place never failed to feed our hunger for art and music. We dropped by recently to support our friends, and obviously one of our favorite local bands – Your Imaginary Friends. Their new EP, Silence Is A Villain was just released and is now making waves in both underground and mainstream music arenas.
Apart from enjoying quality indie music, we were hypnotized by the art pieces that we saw in two separate galleries at The Collective. One features beautiful paintings of women, and small sculptures quaintly using unexpected materials (such as matchboxes, tictac containers, empty cans, and cellphone chargers).
Another gallery showcases vibrant paintings of exaggerated adaptations of famous Filipino street games, and integrated them with popular game consoles. Nice twist. (;
Be sure to check out the scene at The Makati Collective – it will be a wonderful feast for your eyes AND eardrums (oh, and your tummies). Outstanding visuals paired with awesome local music. Filipino pride all the way yo! (:
